Acoustically Driven Cortical ? Oscillations Underpin Prosodic Chunking

چکیده
Abstract Oscillation-based models of speech perception postulate a cortical computational principle by which decoding is performed within window structure derived segmentation process. Segmentation syllable-size chunks realized ? oscillator. We provide evidence for an analogous role ? oscillator in the phrase-sized chunks. recorded magnetoencephalography (MEG) humans, while participants target identification task. Random-digit strings, with phrase-long two digits, were presented at chunk rates 1.8 or 2.6 Hz, inside outside frequency band (defined here to be 0.5–2 Hz). Strong periodicities elicited superior, middle temporal areas and speech-motor integration areas. Periodicities diminished absent ?, line behavioral performance. Our findings show that prosodic chunking acoustic segments correlated acoustic-driven oscillations, expressing anatomically specific patterns neuronal periodicities.

Text chunking for prosodic phrasing in French
In this paper, we describe experiments in text chunking for prosodic phrasing and generation in French. We present a quick, robust and deterministic parser which uses part-of-speech information and a set of rules, to consistently assign prosodic boundaries in Text-To-Speech synthesis. The syntactic phrasing, consisting of segmenting sentences in non-recursive sequences, is de ned in terms of se...
متن کاملAcoustically driven planar microfluidics
Surface acoustic waves are used to actuate and process smallest possible amounts of fluids on the planar surface of a piezoelectric chip. Chemical modification of the chip surface is employed to create virtual wells and tubes to confine the liquids. Lithographically modulated wetting properties of the surface define a fluidic network, in analogy to the wiring of an electronic circuit. Acoustic ...
متن کاملSensory-driven and spontaneous gamma oscillations engage distinct cortical circuitry.
Gamma oscillations are a robust component of sensory responses but are also part of the background spontaneous activity of the brain. To determine whether the properties of gamma oscillations in cortex are specific to their mechanism of generation, we compared in mouse visual cortex in vivo the laminar geometry and single-neuron rhythmicity of oscillations produced during sensory representation...
متن کاملMicrofluidic mixing via acoustically driven chaotic advection.
Mixing presents a notoriously difficult problem in small amounts of fluids. Herein, surface acoustic waves provide a convenient technique to generate time-dependent flow patterns. These flow patterns can be optimized in such a way that advected particles are mixed most efficiently in the fluid within a short time compared to the time pure diffusion would take. Investigations are presented for t...
